Spiritual vision - Srimad Bhagavatam - 11.20.24

Canto 11: General History
Chapter 20: Pure Devotional Service Surpasses Knowledge and Detachment

To reach the goal of yoga one must direct one's mind by no other means than the austerities and procedures of the [eightfold] yoga method, with the logical analyses of the spiritual vision or by means of the exercises of respect for My form [karma, jñâna and bhakti-yoga].
With all of the yama and the procedures of yoga [karma...] and with the logical analysis and the spiritual knowledge [jñâna] should one in no other way but by the worship of My form or other exercises of reverence [the bhakti] focus the mind upon the object of Yoga [its time, place and person].

An attempt to understand - by Bharat Bhushan

I was told by a visitor that one can get a sudden spiritual vision, that can strengthen you and change your entire life. It had happened to him and he resigned his job and went on to another occupation where he has been freelancing since then. He has been getting his business, on its own, without advertisement or lobbying. The orders come to him, one after the other. I was not surprised. It seemed so right.

He was now like a magnet, obtaining the spiritual energy that he so clearly described. He did not want to talk about it and was very reluctant. But he looked so happy, content and relaxed that it felt very amazing and very familiar. But then, I felt that personal attitudes, behaviour and reactions are overwhelmingly powerful and are able to consume oneself extremely.

Is it so difficult for a person to not to react to a situation? Is it very difficult to control reactions? It almost seems like one has to control all senses. So how does it indeed work? Create buffers in ones' life? Prevent the flame from being too close? Resort to prayer or meditation or abstinence from an irritant situation to avoid acceleration towards chaos?

I heard recently that we have two instinctive reactions - First, we feel we should take revenge. Second, we feel we should ensure justice. But it may not be the correct way out. Ensuring justice or seeking revenge may not be the correct way forward. Not everyone is perfect. But we can have a perfect idea. The idea needs to be linked to a dream and it should be absolutely bold and audacious.

So, how does one experience joy and pleasure in one's life? By not having to react, not taking revenge, and not seeking to commit to justice because you have an opinion about what's right and what's wrong with the world. We think that we know that we are correct. But we forget, that the only truth is NOW. Today, at this moment. Everything in the past, is no longer true.
